英語になってしまった日本語には
何があるでしょうか?
やっぱり一番に思いつくのはsushiでしょうか?
各国にsushi restaurantがありますし、
築地の寿司屋には早朝から外国人観光客が並びます。
このように英語でも使われている日本語は
他にもあり、オックスフォード英語辞典
(Oxford English Dictionary)に
掲載されているものもあります。

マンガ:manga
a Japanese genre of cartoons and comic books, having a science-fiction
or fantasy theme and sometimes including violent or sexually explicit material.
アニメ:anime
Japanese film and television animation, typically having a science-fiction
theme and sometimes including violent or explicitly sexual material.

*漫画はcomic book、 アニメはanimation, cartoon が近いものと考えられますが、
取り扱うテーマが異なるため同じものとは考えないようです。
オタク:otaku
a young person who is obsessed with computers or particular aspects
of popular culture to the detriment of their social skills.

ひきこもり:hikikomori
the abnormal avoidance of social contact, typically by adolescent males.
*オタクやひきこもりは存在すると思いますが、日本のような社会現象には
ならないのでその呼び名がないのかもしれません。
過労死:karoshi
death caused by overwork or job-related exhaustion.

*ネイティブと話をすると、
「欧米ではありえない」という答えが返ってくる過労死。
やっぱり英語にはないにはないです(笑)
これらはほんの一部で比較的新しい言葉ですが、
俳句 haiku、盆栽 bonsai など、
たくさんの日本文化に関する言葉が
Oxford English Dictionaryに入っています。
私たちが漠然と理解としていることが、
定義の中で改めて説明されています。
英語圏の文化にはない文化、事象なので、
詳しく説明する必要があるんですね・・・
